Welcome Mark

Ayr United is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Kerr as our first team manager.

Mark takes over with immediate effect on an 18 month contract which runs to May 2021.

The Board of Directors went through a thorough process to look for a new manager. Each application was considered and an initial shortlist was drawn up for phone interviews. After these were completed a final shortlist of 6 were confirmed for final face to face interviews with a panel including Chairman Lachlan Cameron.

All 6 were of an extremely high standard however Mark was the outstanding candidate and left us in no doubt he is the right man to take us forward.

Mark has been hugely respected wherever he has been as a player, he has played over 620 professional games in his career to date which includes over 50 for Ayr United. He was the club captain at Falkirk, Aberdeen and has captained Ayr many times. This is something he has been working towards for many years, has all the relevant coaching badges and knows Ayr United and this league extremely well. He also won all 3 matches when in interim charge at Falkirk.

Mark Kerr, Ayr United manager said :”I am absolutely delighted to have been given this opportunity. This is a fantastic club and right now we have a top group of players and I can’t wait to lead them. This is a great challenge for me at a club I now know very well and I am looking forward to getting down to the hard work straight away. This is an extremely proud moment for me, I have loved playing in front of our fans and hope to take the club forward with them.”

Ian McCall brought Mark to Ayr United in January 2018 and he played a pivotal part as the Honest Men picked up their first league title for 21 years. The following season he made 30 appearances as we reached the Premiership Play Offs.

Chairman Lachlan Cameron said :“It’s been an unsettling few weeks for everyone involved and it’s never an easy process finding a new manager. However, we wanted to do it right and I feel confident in the process and I’m pleased with the result.  The dressing room would have backed any manager coming in but I know they are especially thrilled with our appointment and are looking forward to getting back to winning ways”

Ayr United Media will have a full interview with Mark which will be on all our channels later today.
