Match Preview
Ayr United vs. Stenhousemuir
Ladbrokes League 1 – Tuesday 1st September 2015
Kick-off 7.45pm

Ayr United welcome Stenhousemuir to Somerset Park tonight for our rescheduled League 1 match. United are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of conceding an equaliser in the closing moments against Forfar at the weekend and will join the Loons at the top of the table with a win against the Warriors.

Stenhousemuir were 4-2 victors at home to Cowdenbeath on Saturday, bouncing back from a 4-1 defeat at Station Park the previous week. Brown Ferguson’s side sit one place above Ayr on goal difference, also with seven points from four games.

Team News: Gerry McLauchlan will come back into the starting line up. Alan Trouten is 50/50 for the match.

Ian says: “We feel we should have won the game on Saturday, a combination of bad luck and also not being clinical enough meant that we dropped points. We are looking for a reaction from the boys as they are still annoyed they didn’t take maximum points. Its a big game for us tonight as we want to go joint top and ensure that when we go to Dunfermline it is a top of the table clash. They play Forfar on Saturday so we will gain points whatever happens as long as we win tonight.”

Head-to-Head:
Ayr United wins – 39
Draws – 17
Forfar Athletic wins – 27

Seven of the last 12 meetings between the sides has ended in a draw and the Warriors are unbeaten in the last six encounters.

Last Meeting: As both sides battled it out to avoid the League 1 relegation play-off spot, Ayr found Greg Fleming in imperious form for Stenhousemuir. The match, at Somerset Park in March, ended goalless.

On this day: in 2007 Ayr beat Alloa 2-0 at Somerset Park with second-half goals from Stephen Swift and Ryan Stevenson. Current Stenny boss Brown Ferguson was in the visitor’s line-up.
