Social Media Policy – Unacceptable Comments

Purpose
Ayr United FC values respectful engagement with our supporters, staff, players, and the wider
football community. We recognise the power of social media to build connections and share
passion for our club. However, we will not tolerate comments that are abusive, offensive, or
damaging to individuals or the reputation of the club.
This policy sets out what constitutes unacceptable comments on social media and how the
club will respond.
Scope
This policy applies to:
• Comments made on the official Ayr United FC social media channels (including but not
limited to Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn).
• Comments directed at Ayr United FC players, staff, volunteers, supporters, or partners.
• Any online behaviour that may reasonably be linked to Ayr United FC.
Unacceptable Comments
The following types of comments will be treated as unacceptable:
1. Abusive or Offensive Language
o Use of threatening, insulting, or obscene language.
o Derogatory remarks aimed at individuals or groups.
2. Discrimination and Hate Speech
o Comments based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual
orientation, disability, or any protected characteristic.
o Hate speech, slurs, or content that promotes exclusion or intolerance.
3. Harassment or Bullying
o Targeted abuse, intimidation, or repeated negative comments towards
individuals.
o Encouragement of violence, self-harm, or unsafe behaviour.
4. False, Misleading, or Defamatory Statements
o Spreading unverified rumours or misinformation about the club, staff, players,
or partners.
o Personal attacks or accusations without evidence.
5. Spam and Inappropriate Content
o Advertising or promotional material not authorised by Ayr United FC.
o Inappropriate images, videos, or links.
Club Response
• Removal: Unacceptable comments will be deleted or hidden by the club’s social media
administrators.
• Blocking: Accounts posting repeated or severe breaches may be blocked from
interacting with club platforms.
• Reporting: In cases of hate speech, threats, or illegal behaviour, the club reserves the
right to report users to the relevant social media platforms and/or law enforcement.
• Internal Action: Supporters found to be in breach of this policy may also face further
action under Ayr United FC’s supporter conduct rules, including potential stadium
bans.
Support
Ayr United FC encourages positive, respectful debate and welcomes feedback from
supporters. If you see content you believe breaches this policy, please report it directly to the
club via info@ayrunitedfc.co.uk
Review
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as required to ensure it remains in line with
best practice and the values of Ayr United FC.
