Ayr United vs. Raith Rovers
Friday 11th December 2020. Kick-off 7.45pm
Tonight (Friday), Ayr United take on Raith Rovers under the floodlights at Somerset Park in an intriguing encounter at the top end of the Championship. The live BBC Scotland Friday Night football pitches third against fourth in the table, both sides locked on 11 points.
United will be looking to record a third consecutive Championship victory – and fourth clean sheet in-a-row – having followed up a 2-0 win over Dundee at Somerset Park with a win by the same scoreline over Alloa last weekend.
League 1 Champions Raith Rovers have enjoyed a great start to life back in the Championship after a three year stay in Scottish football’s third tier. John McGlynn – in his second spell in charge at the Kirkcaldy club – has guided Rovers an identical record to the Honest Men after six games: 3 wins, 2 draws and a defeat.
Last weekend, Rovers took on Dunfermline Athletic in a Fife Derby at Stark’s Park, relinquishing a two-goal advantage to share the points with the Pars. Manny Duku and Frankie Musonda put the home side ahead but two goals within 60 seconds for Dunfermline saw them avoid a first defeat of the season.
Dutch striker Duku has eight goals in eight games since signing from Hayes & Reading United in the summer and the Rovers are top goalscorers in the Championship with 16 goals in 6 games. At the other end of the park, former Kilmarnock goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald will be looking to shut out Ayr’s attack.
Team News: Cammy Smith is suspended after his red card at Alloa last weekend. Tom Walsh is isolating after being contacted by Track and Trace.
Mark says: “Tonight is an occasion we are really looking forward to. Live on television under the floodlights at Somerset playing the team one place above us in the table. Raith have made a good start to the season after promotion and have been playing some good football but we are in a good place just now with 3 clean sheets in a row and back to back wins. We are at home and will be on the front foot from the start looking for 3 points.”
