On Friday night, the Under 18s travelled to Glasgow for their CAS Performance League fixture against Queen’s Park. The Honest Men, who played pretty much the full game, narrowly lost 1-0.
With only 3 minutes on the clock, Ayr United were reduced to 10 men when left back CJ Johnston was shown a straight red. The Queen’s Park goalkeeper played a long ball up to his striker who started to drive towards the box. Him and Johnston come together and the referee shows the United player a red card as he deemed he fouled him and was the last man.
The Honest Men had a few good chances in the first however the game was 0-0 going into half time.
In the 56th minute, there were shouts for an Ayr United penalty. Ryan Kennedy won the ball and played it into the path of Lucas McRoberts who drove into the box and was fouled however no penalty was given and the game continued.
Queen’s Park took the lead in the 63rd minute when a cross came into the box and fell to their number 11 on the edge of the box who fired the ball into the back of the net.
In the 86th minute, Ayr United nearly got their equaliser when John West fired an effort towards goal from around 45 yards out but it was denied by the Queen’s Park goalkeeper who tipped it onto the crossbar.
A battling team performance from 10 men Ayr United but it was Queen’s Park who took all 3 points from the game.
