St.Mirren Reserves 0 v 2 Ayr United Reserves

Tuesday 2nd August 2022

On Tuesday afternoon, Ayr United Reserves travelled to Paisley to take on St Mirren in a friendly at their training ground. Ayr United won 2-0 thanks to goals from Daire O’Connor and Mark Mckenzie.

The Ayr United starting 11 consisted of Aidan McAdams, Jordan Houston, Finn Ecrepont, Alex Kirk, Kinlay Bilham, Paul Smith, Michael Hewitt, Daire O’Connor, Michael Moffat, James Dolan and Mark McKenzie. It was a youthful bench as it was made up of Max Guthrie, Dario Viviani and Alex Jeanes as well as Under 18s captain Scott Tomlinson and Under 16s goalkeeper Ollie Ecrepont.

Ayr United took the lead in the first half when Daire O’Connor won the ball from the St Mirren player and made his way into the box before releasing a shot which made its way into the top left corner of the net.

Ayr United doubled their lead in the second half when Michael Hewitt collected the ball just outside of the box and his effort goes in off of the left hand post as the ball appeared to cross the line however the St Mirren keeper pushed the ball back out and Mark McKenzie responded quickly to put the rebound in the net from a few yards out.

Ayr United made 4 substitutions in the second half, all after 65 minutes, which saw Daire O’Connor replaced by Max Guthrie, Alex Kirk replaced by Dario Viviani, Jordan Houston replaced by Alex Jeanes and Paul Smith replaced by Scott Tomlinson.

A great result for the hard working Honest Men against a fairly strong St Mirren side in a game which gave players some more game time with some very good football on display.
