Lochar Thistle U20 v Ayr United U18

Sunday 24th July 2022

On Sunday afternoon, Ayr United Under 18s travelled to Dumfries to take on Lochar Thistle U20s in a pre-season friendly. Ayr United were comfortable winners in a game that saw 6 different players get on the score sheet.

Derren Fairs started in nets and had a defence in front of him that consisted of Aaron Weir, Trialist 5, Alex Jeanes and CJ Johnston. A midfield made up of Scott Tomlinson, Shaun Donnelly and Dario Viviani lined up in front of the defence with an attacking force of Brook Dreghorn, Jonathan McPhee and Max Guthrie in front of them. The Ayr United bench was made up of Ryan Kennedy, Dylan Watret, Bruce Strachan, Trialist 16, Louis McPeake and John West.

Dario Viviani opened the scoring in the game when his effort from just outside the box made its way into the top right hand corner of the net. Viviani doubled the lead and got his second of the game when he put the ball into the bottom right corner from just inside the box.

Captain Scott Tomlinson scored a brace in the space of a minute. The first goal came when Max Guthrie’s effort was saved by the Lochar Thistle keeper however Tomlinson got the rebound and fired a great strike into the back of the net. His second goal saw him make his way into the box and another great strike gave the midfielder his second of the game.

Winger Jonathan McPhee added his name to the score sheet when Brook Dreghorn played a great ball into the box. McPhee’s initial shot was saved by the Lochar Thistle keeper however the winger got the rebound and slotted it across to the right hand side of the net.

Alex Jeanes made his way into the box and played the ball into the 6 yard box which was tapped in by Trialist 5.

Minutes before half time, Jonathan McPhee got another goal when a lovely ball by Scott Tomlinson met McPhee in the box and he took the ball round the Lochar Thistle keeper and slotted it into the net.

At half time, Ayr United made 6 substitutions. Trialist 5, Aaron Weir, CJ Johnston, Scott Tomlinson, Dario Viviani and Max Guthrie were replaced by Louis McPeake, Dylan Watret, John West, Bruce Strachan, Trialist 16 and Ryan Kennedy.

Jonathan McPhee completed his hattrick when he got on the end of a Dylan Watret cross and his bullet header found the back of the net. Brook Dreghorn then added his name to the score sheet when his effort from 20 yards out went into the top right corner, a brilliant goal from the winger. Jonathan McPhee scored once more before being substituted off and replaced by Trialist 5 when he tapped in the great ball that Dreghorn had played into the 6 yard box.  Brook Dreghorn scored once again when he chested the ball into the net following a great delivering into the 6 yard box from Alex Jeanes.

Ayr United were then awarded a penalty when Brook Dreghorn was fouled in the box by the Lochar Thistle keeper. Trialist 5 stepped up to take the penalty and scored it. The Trialist centre back scored again 2 minutes later when his great strike from the edge of the box hit the back of the net to complete his hattrick.

Ayr United were awarded another penalty when Dylan Watret was fouled in the box. This time it was Brook Dreghorn who stepped up to take the penalty and scored it to complete his hattrick. Ryan Kennedy then got himself a goal when his left footed effort went into the corner of the net.

Another pre-season friendly under the belt for the Under 18s that gave all the players some more game time. The Under 18s have 2 remaining pre-season friendlies before their League campaign begins on Friday 5th August.

Best of luck from everyone at Ayr United to Lochar Thistle Under 20s in their first season as an Under 20s team.
