Bonnyton Thistle U20 1 V 4 Ayr United U18

On Friday evening, Ayr United Under 18s travelled to Kilmarnock to take on Bonnyton Thistle Under 20s in their first pre-season game of the 2022/23 season. Ayr United won 4-1 thanks to goals from Max Guthrie, Dario Viviani and 2 goals from Fraser Bryden.

First team players Kinlay Bilham, Dario Viviani, Fraser Bryden and Max Guthrie joined up with the under 18s for the game to allow them all to get some extra game time.

The Honest Men took an early lead in the game as they scored with 2 minutes on the clock. Jonathan McPhee made his way past several players and crossed the ball into the 6 yard box which was met by Fraser Bryden who tapped it.

Jonathan McPhee nearly got his name on the score sheet 6 minutes later when he met a great ball from Dario Vivani and took it past the Bonnyton Thistle goalkeeper however the wingers’ effort was blocked on the line by the Bonnyton Thistle defender.

Ayr United scored 2 more times in the first half. The first goal saw Dario Viviani effort hit off the right hand post however Max Guthrie was there to put the rebound in. Viviani then got his name on the score sheet when he fired a great finish in from just inside the box into the right hand side of the net.

5 minutes before half time Bonnyton Thistle grabbed a goal back and the Honest Men went into half time with a 3-1 lead. Ayr United made a substitution at half time when keeper Morgan Stirling was replaced by Derren Fairns.

3 minutes into the second half and Fraser Bryden got his second goal of the game. A great ball into the box by Dario Viviani was met by Bryden who put the ball away into the net.

The Honest Men made several substitutions in the second half. There first saw Jonathan McPhee and Dylan Watret replaced by Brook Dreghorn and Aaron Weir, the second saw John West replaced by Trialist 18, the third saw Bruce Strachan replaced by Trialist 20, the fourth saw Fraser Bryden replaced by Ryan Kennedy and the fifth saw Scott Tomlinson and CJ Johnston replaced by Harry Simpson and Louis McPeake.

The Honest Men won 4-1 in their first pre-season game which saw the players get a good amount of game time. The under 18s have a busy schedule of pre-season games over the next few weeks in preparation for their league campaign that begins at the start of August.
