Match Preview | Partick Thistle | 29/04/22

Ayr United welcome Partick Thistle tonight knowing that a win will preserve their Championship status as the curtain closes on the 2021/2022 season. United are one point above the relegation play off place and must match or better Dunfermline’s result against already relegated Queen of the South to avoid finishing 9th

The Honest Men came from behind to salvage a point for the fourth time in five games last weekend away to Queen of the South. Euan East’s 80th minute strike put The Doonhamers ahead as they looked to take their survival hopes to the final day. But, with three minutes left to play, East deflected Kerr McInroy’s effort into the back of his own to level the scores. The result confirmed relegation for the Dumfries side but with Dunfermline losing, the point proved valuable for Ayr as their destiny is now in their own hands.

Partick Thistle are all but safe in the promotion playoff spot barring a three point and eight goal swing in favour of Raith Rovers tonight. Ex Ayr skipper, Ross Docherty’s goal was enough to earn the Jags a 1-0 win over Dunfermline to edge Thistle firmly into the play off driving seat. Partick frontman, Brian Graham is amongst the league’s top goal scorers with 13 goals this season whilst at the other end, Thistle have 18 clean sheets to their name this season – more than any other team.

Team News

Ben Dempsey and Blaine Rowe are both out.

The Manager Says:

“It’s a huge game for us but we have to play with a calmness and a belief in ourself. The performances have been there and the group are showing a terrific resilience to get back into games but we know the importance of starting well. The fans have been magnificent since I got here and we’ll need them again tonight. It’s one big push to get us over the line and the players are up for it.”
