We received confirmation yesterday that Ross Doohan, Daniel Harvie and Stephen Kelly are in the Scotland Under 21 squad for the games around the weekend of September 7. We would like to give all 3 our congratulations for the call up.
We are also able to confirm that our 3rd round Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup tie at Wrexham will take place at the Racecourse Ground at 3pm on Saturday 7th September.
Manager Ian McCall said :”The game will go ahead on the planned date and we won’t be requesting a postponement and there are many reasons for that. I hugely respect this competition, when you get through a couple of rounds and get to the quarters, semis or final then it becomes a huge occasion for the club. Everyone will know how importantly I take every competitive match. The priority though is our league campaign. We fought extremely hard to become a Championship club and becoming an established Championship club is our main focus.
When you look at the 3 players that will be unavailable we have cover and that is not to say we wouldn’t have made some changes regardless of who was unavailable. Ellis Hare-Reid has been superb in training for some time now and he is very much in our sights as our number 1 for next season so there is no question he deserves a chance. Finn Ecrepont is also a young player who will need tested at this level so he may well be involved as well, which is a great thing is he another boy who has came through our Academy. And midfield is an area where we are covered.
If you look at where our club was a few years ago everyone involved in the club, including the supporters, should take a pat on the back for the fact we are now having situations where we have multiple players involved in international squads. It is a great problem to have. Now we have the biggest clubs in our country wanting to give us their young talent as they can see the progress they make while they are here.
Also there is no question that 3pm on Saturday is the most accessible time for our supporters. This is something completely different and I know that many of our fans will want to follow the team down there. Our fans suffered last season due to numerous live TV and rearranged games and hopefully they will enjoy this occasion.”
