Livingston match preview

Match Preview Livingston vs. Ayr United Betfred Cup Group G Tuesday 26th July 2016. Kick-off 7.45pm

Tonight (Tuesday), Ayr United travel to Livingston looking to set a target at the top of Group G as they play their final match of the Group Stage. The Honest Men sit top of the table with six points from three games played, ahead of St. Mirren on goal difference.

Livingston, along with Hamilton Accies, have three points from two games played. After narrowly losing 3-2 at home to St. Mirren on the opening day, the Lions recorded a comfortable 3-0 win away to Edinburgh City a week ago. David Hopkin’s side played out a goalless draw with Hartlepool on Saturday.

Also in Group G this week, Edinburgh City host Hamilton Accies tomorrow night ahead of Saturday’s fixtures which see Livi travel to face the Accies and St. Mirren at home to Edinburgh City.

Team News: Craig Moore is still out with the head injury sustained in the match against St Mirren. Alan Forrest still has a slight issue with his back and Brian Gilmour is out with a hamstring injury. Forrest and Moore should be fine for the Raith game.

Ian says: “It will be a very difficult game as Livingston are going to be challenging for the League One title this season and have some good players. While initially these games may have been looked at as pre season that certainly is not the case now as we have a chance to qualify and we will be doing our best to get the win that gives us a chance. I am sure we will take a good support and we will look to give them something to shout about.”

The Opposition:

It has been a summer of transition at the Tony Macaroni Arena following relegation from the Championship, with Head Coach David Hopkin signing no fewer than 10 new players. Among the arrivals are Airdrieonians’ central defensive duo Sean Crighton and Alan Lithgow, midfielders Liam Watt and Nicky Cadden, both also from Airdrie, and former Hearts and Kilmarnock striker Dale Carrick. They join former United players Jackson Longridge and Liam Buchanan.
