On Friday afternoon, Ayr United Under 18s made the short journey up the A77 when they travelled to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock in the CAS Performance League. The Honest Men won the Ayrshire Derby thanks to first half goals from Shaun Donnelly and Max Guthrie.
It was the Honest Men that took the lead of the Ayrshire Derby after 14 minutes thanks to a fantastic strike from Shaun Donnelly. A corner was played into the box and was cleared by the Kilmarnock defence however Donnelly picked the ball up around 25 yards out and fired it into the top right corner for his first goal of the season.
The lead was doubled in the 38th minute when a Ryan Kennedy cross into the 6 yard box was met by Max Guthrie who tapped it in from a few yards out.
Kilmarnock grabbed a goal back in the 68th minute when an effort was denied by the post however the Kilmarnock player was there to slot home the rebound from a few yards out.
The first half goals from Shaun Donnelly and Max Guthrie were enough to give the Honest Men all 3 points at Rugby Park.
