Hamilton | Match Preview | 01/04/22
Ayr United play host to Hamilton Accies tonight in another huge game in the race for Championship safety. 6th place Hamilton have somewhat eased their relegation worries with only one defeat in their last five games but United lie in 8th just four points above the relegation play off after just one win in their last five outings.
The Honest Men grabbed a hugely important point away to Morton last weekend. Cameron Blues opened the scoring for the home side in the first half before Tomi Adeloye netted his tenth league goal of the season to earn his side a draw. The frontman almost grabbed the headlines with a spectacular winner – but Jack Hamilton was equal to it to ensure a share of the points at Cappielow.
Opposition
Hamilton have opened up a gap over the bottom teams recently and a 1-0 victory over Queen of the South last weekend certainly helped their cause. Andy Winter’s second half strike was enough to open up a nine point gap over 9th placed Dunfermline Athletic meaning a win tonight would see Accies all but safe.
Team News
Sam Ashford is still suspended and Michael Hewitt remains side-lined.
The Manager Says:
Head to Head
Ayr United Wins - 56

Ayr have yet to lose to Accies this season with 2 draws and 2 wins – including one in the cup. Hamilton’s last win at Somerset Park came at the start of the 2011/2012 season as they claimed a 2-1 victory.
Last Meeting: The last meeting between the two ended in a 1-1 draw. At the tail end of January, a debut Sam Ashford goal cancelled out Kai Kennedy’s early opener.
Ayr Lined Up: McAdams, Houston, Baird, McGinty, Reading, Muirhead, Gondoh (McKenzie 61'), Murdoch, Dempsey (Bryden 86'), O'Connor (Maxwell 62'), Adeloye (Ashford 59’).

“We gained a point on teams below us last weekend but it was frustrating not to take all three. Every point is a prisoner and we’re back on home turf this week with our safety being in our own hands. Our target is to ensure our safety and the sooner we can do that the better.”
