Forfar Athletic vs. Ayr United
Ladbrokes League 1 – Saturday 17th October 2015
On Saturday, Ayr United return to League 1 action following the International break with the first of back-to-back away fixtures. First up this weekend are Forfar Athletic at Station Park, with the Honest Men travelling to Angus much changed from the side who clinched League 1 safety at the same venue last May.
Forfar Athletic drew 2-2 at Peterhead in their last match and have taken just four points from a possible 15 since the start of September. The run of form has seen the Loons drop to third position in the table, six points behind United.
Team News:Peter Murphy and Craig Moore are ruled out through injury. Everyone else is fit.
Ian says: “we have worked hard during the break and are really looking forward to get out there again. We remember the last time we were at Forfar, hopefully our fans can try and create an atmosphere like they did that day. Forfar will be up there at the end of the season so we know how difficult it will be. We want to go 4 points clear before Dunfermline go to Stranraer.”
Ayr United wins – 54
Draws – 17
Forfar Athletic wins – 30
In 45 league meetings at Station Park, both sides have scored 75 goals. Forfar have 20 wins to Ayr’s 17 and there have been 7 draws.
Last Meeting: Honors were even last time the sides met, at Somerset Park at the end of August. Forfar travelled south with three wins from three in the league and maintained their unbeaten record with a last minute Michael Travis equaliser. The Loons had taken the lead after 24 minutes through on loan Hibs striker Lewis Allan before goals either side of half-time from Craig Moore and Alan Forrest edged the Honest Men ahead before Travis snatched a point for Dick Campbell’s side.
On this day: in 1914 the Honest Men defeated Rangers 2-0 at Somerset Park.
