Dunfermline | Match Preview | 16/04/22

Ayr United make the trip to Dunfermline this afternoon for the proverbial end of season six pointer. With three games to go, 8th placed United are just three points ahead of Saturday’s opponents who currently occupy 9th place and a win for either side could prove vital in the race for survival. A win for Lee Bullen’s men would see them go six points clear of the relegation play off spot with only six points to play for showing just how important the game is for The Honest Men.

United head to East End Park on the back of yet another comeback, this time drawing 2-2 with Inverness. A dismal first half display had Ayr 2-0 down after early goals from Shane Sutherland and Logan Chalmers got Inverness off to a flying start. However, it was role reversal in the second half as goals from Fraser Bryden and Markus Fjortoft drew Ayr level and secured a well deserved point.

Opposition

Despite sitting 9th, Dunfermline haven’t lost at home since December 2021 in a run stretching to six games. However, the Pars come into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Kilmarnock last weekend. A win for John Hughes side this weekend would move them level on points with Ayr. A win by a one goal margin would see the sides level on points, goal difference, goals for and goals against and would make for a tense last two games of the season.

Team News

Ben Dempsey and Blaine Rowe are out.

The Manager Says:

“This is a huge game and one we are really looking forward to. We’re going there to win the game but we have to remain clam in front of what will be a big crowd and hopefully a brilliant atmosphere. Our fans have been terrific since I came in and the players thoroughly appreciate their support – they can make the difference tomorrow and I hope we can send them home happy. ”
