Steven Bell today penned a deal at Somerset Park to the end of the 2018/19 season.
Manager Ian McCall said :”Steven has been fantastic for Stranraer, he has played well over 150 games for them since joining in October 2013. He was the Stranraer captain and you can never have enough captains in your team. He has great experience at this level and the league above and can play in a number of positions for us which is very important. We have probably been putting pressure on the players with injuries to get back as quickly as possibly and this gives them a chance to make sure they are right. This signing will probably mean that we will need to work things around and one or two will be going out.”
Steven said “The first I knew about anything was on Tuesday after the game, Ian McCall had spoken to Stevie Farrell to check availability. There was interest from other clubs but after speaking to my new gaffer I knew this was where I wanted to come. Ayr being at the top of the league was a huge factor as I want to win something, the older I get the less chance I will have to do that so I have a real hunger to succeed. I know a lot of the current team whether it be through having played with them previously or having played against them so I know there is a lot of quality in this squad. I have played at Somerset many times and I always felt the Somerset Road as being intense so it will be good to have them on my side now.
Steven’s previous clubs are Dundee United, Queen of the South, Stirling Albion, Dunfermline and Stranraer. He is generally a central midfielder and has also played centre-back.
