Airdrie match preview

On Saturday, Ayr United travel to the Excelsior Stadium to face Airdrieonians as the fight to avoid relegation continues. The Honest Men raced to a two goal lead at home to Peterhead last weekend but a second-half collapse saw three vital points dropped. United’s rivals to avoid the play-off spot Stenhousemuir also let slip a two goal advantage last weekend, losing 3-2 in the final minute at Cappielow. The Warriors travel to Stranraer on Saturday.

Airdrie were defeated 2-0 at title-chasing Forfar Athletic last weekend, seriously denting their hopes of making the promotion play-offs. The Diamonds now sit six points behind fourth placed Brechin City with nine points to play for. Former Ayr striker Bryan Prunty has been on a rich run of goalscoring form with 10 goals in the his last 10 games, taking his tally to the season to 14. His strike partner Jim Lister looks set to miss the rest of the season through injury.
