18s v Dunfermline | Match Report

By Karen Malcolm

Ayr United Under 18s were in action on Friday evening, winning 3-0 in a friendly against Dunfermline Athletic at Townhead Park, Cumnock.

Ayr United made a positive start to the game. Brook Dreghorn created chances, Josh Robinson supplied ammunition with quality crosses into the box, and a Ryan Kennedy shot from 18 yards flew inches over the bar.

Defensively CJ Johnston, Shane McNeish and Aaron Weir were already showing a toughness and intent at the back, nullifying Dunfermline's attack.

Ayr United took the lead on 22 mins. A corner was played into the box and eventually came out to Josh Robison, who took a shot that was turned into the net by Lewis Allen.

2 mins later, Ayr almost doubled their lead when an 18-yard drive by Ryan Kennedy looked destined for the back of the net but was saved by Dunfermline's keeper.

4 mins later, captain Dario Viviani took a shot from 25 yards out that went just over the bar.

On the verge of halftime, Scott Tomlinson made a solo run half the length of the pitch and played the ball into the box. As Ryan Kennedy looked set to pounce, a defender managed to touch the ball away but into the path of Josh Robertson. Unfortunately for Robertson, his shot slammed into the side netting.

United went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Ayr made their first substitution of the game on 52 mins when Dylan O’Kane replaced Brook Dreghorn. 3 mins later, they made another substitution when John West replaced Aaron Weir. This substitution saw West go to centre back and Lewis Allen move to right back.

Another Ayr substitution was made in the 58th min when Harry Simpson replaced Ryan Kennedy.

In 60 mins, Josh Robinson saw his shot from 25 yards out go just wide of the right-hand post.

Ayr doubled their lead a minute later when Jonathan McPhee played the ball to Dylan O’Kane smashed a stunning overhead kick into the net from 12 yards out. A wonder goal from the substitute.

Ayr made another substitution 8 mins later when Bruce Strachan replaced Jonathan McPhee.

In the 70th min, Ayr went close to scoring again after some great play between Dario Viviani and Josh Robinson; however, Robinsons shot went just wide of the left-hand post.

2 mins later, Viviani attempted to lob the keeper from 35 yards but was unlucky to see his effort just hitting off the crossbar.

Ayr made a further three substitutions when Brook Dreghorn, Reece Wilson and Morgan Stirling replaced Josh Robinson, goal scorer Lewis Allen, and goalkeeper Tyler Fraser.

Ayr scored again, 2 mins before the final whistle when Bruce Strachan laid the ball off to Dylan O’Kane who took a shot from 20 yards out. The keeper got a hand to it but not enough to keep the ball out of the net.

In the game's final few seconds, brilliant defending from Shane McNeish, Reece Wilson, Scott Tomlinson, and a save from Morgan Stirling kept 'The Pars' from the scoresheet.

The game ended 3-0, an excellent performance from an energetic Ayr side highlighted by a wonder goal from Dylan O’Kane, and a clean sheet.
